Weekend Picks: What to Do in Denver This Weekend (April 11–13)
The weather is warming up and Denver's event calendar is filling fast. Whether you're exploring your neighborhood or driving across the metro, here are some highlights for this weekend.
Cherry Creek Farmers' Market Opening Weekend
The Cherry Creek Farmers' Market kicks off its 2026 season this Saturday. Over 80 local vendors set up along 1st Avenue between University and Steele, offering everything from fresh produce and artisan bread to local honey and handmade goods. Hours are 8am–1pm. Arrive early for the best selection and easier parking.
Red Rocks — Season Opener
Red Rocks Amphitheatre begins its concert season this weekend. Even if you don't have tickets to a show, the park itself is open daily for hiking and exploring. The Trading Post trail is a 1.4-mile loop with stunning views, and Fitness on the Rocks sessions run through the spring.
South Pearl Street Walkabout
South Pearl Street hosts its monthly First Friday-style walkabout this Saturday from 4–8pm. Local shops, galleries, and restaurants along the strip offer specials, live music, and a festive neighborhood atmosphere. It's a great way to experience one of Denver's most charming commercial districts.
Chatfield State Park — Fishing Season
Chatfield Reservoir is stocked and fishing season is in full swing. The park also offers kayaking, paddleboarding, and miles of trails for hiking and biking. A Colorado Parks & Wildlife pass is required for vehicle entry. Pro tip: the north boat ramp area tends to be less crowded on weekend mornings.
Highlands Ranch Backcountry Wilderness Area
For a quieter outdoor experience, the Backcountry Wilderness Area in Highlands Ranch offers over 8,000 acres of open space with trails for hiking and mountain biking. Wildlife sightings are common — keep an eye out for deer, raptors, and the occasional coyote. The Highlands Point trailhead on Monarch Boulevard is the most popular access point.
Downtown — Union Station Weekend Market
Union Station's weekend market returns with local artisans, food trucks, and live acoustic music in the Great Hall. It's a perfect stop if you're already downtown or arriving via light rail. The Crawford Hotel's lobby bar is right there if you need a post-market cocktail.
Worth the Drive: Garden of the Gods (Colorado Springs)
If you're up for a day trip, Garden of the Gods is about 70 minutes south of Denver and one of the most spectacular free parks in the country. Spring is ideal for visiting — wildflowers are starting to bloom and temperatures are comfortable for hiking the park's red rock formations. Arrive before 9am to beat the crowds.
